Rochester vital statistics indices

These indices were compiled using listings originally published in two Rochester, New York, newspapers: The Daily Record (D.R.) and the Democrat and Chronicle (D&C). As such, all of the information contained within is already in the public record.

A big thank you to Tom Tryniski of FultonHistory.com, who has digitized thousands of publications and works for public use and research, including issues of the D.R. (1908–1974) and the D&C (1872–1939, 1947–1970).

Please remember that these are merely indices for the actual listings, which have additional information not contained in the indices. All of the actual listings have the addresses of those concerned, and the listings for marriage licenses issued by the City of Rochester also include the ages of both individuals and the trade of the prospective groom.

All of the indices are in PDF format, and you will need a PDF reader installed on your computer or device to open the files. Some desktop browsers have built-in PDF support, and some mobile devices have a PDF reader pre-installed. If you do not have a PDF reader, you can download the latest version of Adobe Reader for free from this link or read about other PDF viewers in this Wikipedia article.

Listing indices for each year will be uploaded as they are completed. If you are looking for a specific year, feel free to e-mail me at the address in the page footer and I can make completing that year's indices a priority.

Birth indices (1942–1951)

The Daily Record began publishing birth listings on September 17, 1942, and continued to do so through at least the end of 1974. The Democrat and Chronicle also printed the same set of listings from 1943 to 1965.

The indices for listings beyond 1951 will initially be omitted based on the guidelines used for the U.S. Census, where the contents of population schedules are sealed for 72 years. Once completed, the 1952 index will be uploaded in early 2024.
